Evelyn Arehart (Thompson) Alexander, 98, widow of Eugene G. Alexander, of 1557 Newport Road passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at her residence.
Mrs. Alexander was born February 8, 1914 in Greenville, a daughter of the late Carl V. and Ora L. (Arehart) Thompson.
Mrs. Alexander was an active member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church in Covington where she held various offices in the church, taught Sunday School and loved teaching Bible studies. She was an avid card player as well as a marvelous cook.
She was preceded in death by a nephew, Kenny Shuler, of Ohio.
Surviving are a son, Larry Carl Alexander of Spetses, Greece; a daughter, Carolyn Wanda Alexander of State College, PA; granddaughter, Tanya Alexander-DeBuvitz; a sister, Ora T. Lotts of Raphine; niece and caregiver, Linda L. Lunsford and her husband Gene of Raphine; three nephews, Bill Kerr and his wife Dorle of Staunton, Jim Kerr and his wife Judy of Daleville and Gordon Shuler of Medina, OH, a great niece, Suzanna Lunsford of VT, and a brother-in-law, Rev. George P. Kopp, Jr. of Staunton.
A Memorial service will be conducted at a later date with
burial being held in the Alleghany Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 1:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012, at the residence. Friends may also stop by the home at other times as well.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the
McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 North Alleghany Avenue, Covington VA 24426 or the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, Post Office Box 215, Fishersville VA 22939.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
