J. A. Conaway, 79, pioneer West Texan and resident of Abilene for the past 10 years, died at a local hospital Monday night at 9:55. he had been ill of pneumonia for more than two weeks.
Mr. Conaway was born in Limestone County and lived in Mitchell county, near Colorado City, for 42 years prior to moving to Abilene. He was engaged in farming and ranching when he lived in Mitchell county.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters and seven sons. The daughters are Mrs. Clora A. Haller of Abilene and Mrs. Jewel Sutphen of Ballinger. The sons are T. E. and Otha of Colorado City, P. A. in the service somewhere in England, Ottie, J. Weldon, Dennis D and Alma, all of Abilene.
Other survivors are two grandsons he raised from infancy, John Edward and Rodolph Conaway of Abilene.
The family residence is 1772 North Eighth street.
He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete Monday night and will be announced from Elliot's Funeral home Tuesday.
