Fernand Bannie Kuffer, 79, died January 22, 2013 at his home in Pinetop, Az.

He was born October 28, 1933 in Bell, Ca., the only child of Fernand Rene Kuffer and Florence Stewart. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend.

He attended various schools in Los Angeles Area, Graduating from Pomona College in 1956. After graduation he was employed at the Hanford installation, in Richland Wa., then at Beckman Instruments in Anaheim Ca., and finished his career at General Dynamics in Pomona, Ca.

He was a nuclear, organic and analytical chemist. In optics, he was a designer of telescopic systems, tracker and laser systems. He designed spectrometric instruments, commercial and spacecraft qualified analytical instrumentation.

In the high energy program, he generated the concepts and directed the efforts in most of General Dynamics technologies, radar, millimeter radar, ultraviolet-visible-infrared tracking, laser rangefinder-illuminators, control, servos, structural ITS dynamics, displays and man interfacing, high power optics, high energy laser and implementing computer codes.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Jean Kaggie Kuffer who he married in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on February 1, 1955. They were blessed with three daughters and one son; Keetette Marie (Ken) Turner, Karvin Rene Kuffer, Arnene Anne (Alan) Lee and Rex Bannie Kuffer, grandchildren; Brandon (Mariessa) Turner, Alicia (Andy) Simper, Cameron Turner, Kara Brill, Trevor (Felicia) Brill, Robert Brill, Adam (Tiffany) Lee, Shandelle (Todd) Wahlin, Joshua (Emma) Lee, Justin (Ella) Lee, Katrina (Tim) Reidhead, Lacey (Dustin) Owens, Cody Lee and Kyle Kuffer, and 17 great grandchildren.

Bannie spent many years working on his own family history and helping many others to do theirs. He loved the mountains, fishing, shooting, photography, astronomy, and most of all learning about everything. He was a lifelong learner who continuously found new things to learn, and he loved teaching others what he had learned.

Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pinetop Lakes Ward building on Bucksprings Road., Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2pm with a viewing at 1pm. Interment will be at the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery in Taylor Az.
