Mary Smith Homemaker and mother

Anna Mary Smith, 92, of Gillette, died at Pioneer Manor in Gillette on Thursday, Dec. 26, 1991, after a long illness.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Gillette Mount Pisgah Cemetery with the Rev. Dick Remington of the Gillette Christian Center officiating. Burial will follow.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Noecker Funeral Home Chapel.

She was born March 6, 1899, at Fort Scott, Kansas, to Roderick Lucerne and Mary Ellen (Dunmire)McClaughry. She was raised in Coffeeville, Kansas, until she was 12 and then moved to Glendale, Ariz., with her mother. Her father died when she was 4 yeas old.

She finished school in Phoenix and graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1916. She attended Lamson Business College in Phoenix for two years. She worked as a secretary for a Phoenix physician and later for a dairy in Tempe, Ariz.

She married James A. Smith, a certified public accountant from Phoenix, on Aug. 8, 1923. She became a homemaker and occasional worked for her husband during his busy times. She became a full-time homemaker, caring for her husband and children in the late 1930s.

In 197, she and her husband moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., where they lived until 1980, when they moved with their son to Gillette, where their daughter was already living. She had been a resident of Pioneer Manor since 1989.

She enjoyed gardening while in Arizona, cooking and needlework. She made many afghans, wall hangings and much of her grandchildren's clothing. She was a member of the Central Methodist Church of Phoenix.

She is survived by her son, James Palmer Smith of Gillette; her daughter, Mrs. Roy (Jacqueline) Holland of Gillette; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981, one brother and seven sisters.

Memorials can be sent to the donor's choice. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Noecker Funeral Home Chapel.
