JOHN JACOB BAUMGARTNER
Passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Barbara Stucky, Monday morning December 11, 1911 after an illness of several weeks.

John was born September 19, 1826 in Engi, Canton Glarus, Switzerland. In 1850 he married Elizabeth Wees in Switzerland. In 1856 they emigrated to this country, locating first at New Glarus, Wisconsin. In 1863 they moved to Berne, Dodge County, Minnesota where they lived permanently. For fourteen years Mr. Baumgartner retained a home in Kasson, but returned to the old home at Berne.

Mrs. Baumgartner preceded him to the grave some eleven years ago. Mr. Baumgartner had felt his physical health declining for months and accepted the inevitable approach of death with absolute content and satisfaction. His was a life lived in simplicity and his memory will be cherished by those who respectfully mourn the loss of a father.

John is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Godfried (Anna Catherine) Andrist and Barbara Stucky of Berne and three sons, towit: Rudolph of Spokane, Washington and John and Jacob of Berne. Rev. Grieb conducted the service.

Obituary published in the Mantorville Express, December 22, 1911 donated by Janice Johnson, FAG volunteer.
