Perry A. Kistler was born in Collinswood, Allen County, Indiana. His mother Julia Amanda Kistler Kendall died of an unknown disease in 1895 when he was 13 years old. He went to live with his grandparents -Michael and Esther Kistler then and his half siblings were placed in an orphanage in Fort Wayne, IN. He joined the Navy at 18 and served during the Spanish American War. He married Mary Ann Witmer in Davenport, North Dakota. They moved to Leonard, North Dakota where Perry became a rural mail carrier all of his career until retirement when he moved to Tacoma, Washington. He was the father of five children: one son and four daughters.
They are: Velma (Rolla Briscoe), Marion (Hal Wooton), Perry (Helen Haney), Marjorie(Thomas Dolik)and Ethel (Phil Casebolt).
Perry loved to fish and hunt. He was also President of the North Dakota Rural Letter Carriers Association.
