George was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Keister) Ashton, who moved from York County, PA to Huntingdon County, PA in 1840. His brother David's bio in an 1906 biographical encyclopedia, mentions George and his wife married in Lanark, Ill, then moved to Boone, Iowa, then in 1890 to Iowa Park, Texas and in 1895 to Lincoln, Nebraska.
