Richard (Dick) F. Rohr, 83, of Indian River, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
A Scripture Service was held on Thursday evening. Mass of the Christian Burial was held Friday, Jan. 18 at the church. Interment was held at the Shrine Cemetery in Indian River.
Dick was born October 10, 1929 in Detroit, Mich. He was the son of Joseph and Julia (McKnight) Rohr. He grew up in Detroit and attended Christ the King Catholic School. He graduated in 1947 from University of Detroit High School. Dick earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Detroit and a master's degree in Education from Wayne State University.
On July 12, 1952 he married Nancy E. Stahl in Gross Pointe, Mich. The couple made their home in Garden City.
Dick was a veteran of the Korean War. He served in Japan for 15 months with the Army Counter Intelligence Corp. Nancy preceded him in death in Sept., 1962.
On June 22, 1963, he married the former Joan Jaminet in Southfield. The couple made their home in Rochester, Mich. Dick retired in 1988 as Data Services Manager of Utica Community Schools, after 16 years of service. In September, 1988, Dick and Joan moved to Indian River, including four years in Tenn.
Dick enjoyed genealogy, crossword puzzles, computers and traveling. He was a member of the Cross in the Woods parish and had served the church as Eucharistic Minister and as a greeter. He was a member of the F.O.E., Arie 4046, Indian River and a Tuscarora Township trustee.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Timothy (Susan) Rohr of Houston, Texas and Matthew (Carol) Rohr of Arlington, Va.; and grandchildren, Christine, Steven, Douglas and Daniel. Besides his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Joseph, Robert and Fr. Louis Rohr, O.F.M., and his sister, Margaret Fox.
