Karl Wilhelm Gabelmann was born on 3 Jan 1845 in Dinglingen, Baden. When he went to the US he changed his name to William Charles Oberlie. Oberlie was his mother's maiden name. It is not known why he changed his name. He married Louise Pauline Mutzer who was born in Westphalia, Germany. They had ten children one of whom was Clara Mary. He settled in the Richmond, IN, area.
