World War II Vet
Mr. Blackmore was born in Elk City on Nov. 19, 1919, and was raised with five brothers and two sisters in Canute; all deceased with the exception of Dorothy Bonny and husband, Elmo, who continue to reside in Canute on the original family farm land.
After graduating from Canute High School in 1937, Scotty moved to the Oklahoma Panhandle to attend college at Panhandle A&M, where he met his wife of 61 years, Aline Osborn Blackmore. After 21/2 years at Panhandle, Scotty was called into the armed forces to serve during World War II. Scotty received an honorable discharge on April 1, 1946, while receiving numerous service medals including a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
Scotty and Aline lived their married years in Texhoma, where Scotty served the community as Texhoma mayor during the 1950s and was city treasurer for 24 years. Scotty served on the volunteer fire department and continued his active membership in the Masonic Lodge as well as American Legion. He was a 59-year faithful member of First Christian Church, joining in 1943. He retired in 1985 from Panhandle Chevrolet and Implement Co. after 24 years of service.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Jean Blackmore Gose on Oct. 24, 2001.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Gwenda Caudle and husband, Carroll, of Amarillo, Texas; a son, Bud Blackmore and wife, Janet, of Salt Lake City; four grandchildren, Patricia Caudle Ubrig of Phoenix, Jeff Blackmore of Houston, Jenny Caudle Brown of Amarillo and Mark Blackmore, D.D.S., of Dallas; and five grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to American Diabetes Association; or Texhoma First Christian Church.
