Gertrude Esther Chapin -
Author and Poet. She graduated from Carleton University in 1904, later receiving her M.A. from the University of Iowa in 1917. She also studied at the University of Minnesota in 1907, University of Chicago in 1909 -1910, and Coe College in 1933 and 1949 -1950. For nearly forty years from 1919 to 1952, she taught high school English in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was a member of various literary societies, and her work appeared in numerous national magazines. She and her father, Asahel Chapin, were the authors of Prairie Songs (1953).
