Obituary
Walter Ashurst passed away January 17, 2013. He was born in Montgomery, AL on November 14, 1924 to Robert T. Ashurst and Vivian E. Ashurst. He is preceded in death by his wife JuliaAnne Hawes Ashurst and brother Dr. Robert Ashurst. Survivors are daughter Vivian Lee Mason and Judy Ashurst Cotton, son Walter T. Ashurst "Bunky", eight grand children, Carl Brandt McDonald (Kim), Michaels Scott Ashurst (Gail), Walter Ashurst Gunter Mason (MaryAnne), Walter Jeffrey Cotton (Alison), Julia Anne King, Joyous Sansing Cotton (Stephen), Johnathan Thomas Ashurst Cotton (Julie), Amy Susanne Frye (Jason), and 15 great-grandchildren.
Walter graduated from Starke University (Montgomery) in 1941 before entering into cadet training with the Air Force in 1943 where he became a B-26 test pilot. In March 1948 he graduated from Auburn University with a degree in pharmacy and proceeded to work for one year at Ashurst Drug Co. with his father. He then opened his own pharmacy in the Hill building which later merged with Ashurst Drug Co. Walter served as a license inspector in Montgomery County for a time. He was also a member of the Lion's Club and a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. On his spare time Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, grilling out and enjoying the beach at Perdido Key.
The pallbearers will be Brandtley McDonald, Mason McDonald, Michael Ashurst, Tommy Ashurst, Daniel Ashurst, Wilson Cotton, Walter Mason and Johnathan Cotton.
Visitation is at St. John's Episcopal Church from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm on Tuesday January the 22nd immediately followed by the funeral service. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. John's Episcopal Church or one's favorite charity.
