Hugh married Mary Ann Grainger in 1854. Hugh and Ann resided in the Louisville area and raised eight children; Fannie Viola Curry, Theodocia Curry, Marian Elizabeth Curry, George B. Curry, Hugh Morgan Curry, Emma Curry, John Lee Curry and Arthur Bernard Curry.
Hugh's father; John Wilson Curry owned Jefferson Foundry & Steam Engine Mfg. Hugh worked as a Steamboat Engineer at the foundry.
Hugh served as a United States Civil War Soldier with the 5th Regiment, Kentucky Mounted Infantry.
