Robert was the son of Richard B. and Sadie Purington. He was the brother to Richard Jr., Muriel, Shirley, Pricilla, Everett, and Susan. He was the husband of Janice Elaine Purington (Sunderland), and father to David, Alan and Jon Purington. He was also my Uncle, my very dear uncle! Some would say my second father... He was in the U.S. Navy, and was injured while in action, losing eye sight in his left eye. He grew up in Dover, attending all the local schools and graduating from Dover High. After the service, he married my Aunt Jan, and finally settled down in Rollinsford to raise his family. He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard, He was a 32 degree Mason with the Strafford Lodge in Dover, and was Past State Commander of the D.A.V.(Disabled American Veterens). My father, Everett, Bob's younger brother and best friend succeded him as state Commander. Bob loved family, deer hunting, fishing and his Camp up in Conway, N.H. He had one hell of a sense of humor, and could have you laughing at the drop of a hat! I will always remember our hunting trips up north, and the year we both got a deer within an hour of each other. I got an "8" pt, and he got a "12" pt. He was one of three major male influences in my life, along with my father, and my Grandfather Purington. My father, and Bob were two peas in a pod, and both passed within 11 months of each other. Robert was a direct decendent of George Puddington (Purington), who sailed from Tiverton, England on the ship, the "Pied Cow", and landed in what is now known as "Cow Cove", in South Berwick, Maine. I will forever miss him, and pray that we will see each other again....God bless you, Uncle Bob!
