James Tarpley "Tarp" Fergeson, 79, longtime Guymon carpenter and city employee died at his home in Guymon, late Thursday afternoon. The son of Olive and Martha Fergeson, he was born on Dec. 5, 1909 at Guymon. He married Mable Martin Oct. 16, 1972 at Guymon.

A carpenter for many years, he had been employed by the City of Guymon for 10 years prior to his retirement in 1960.

Beside his wife, Mable, of the home, survivors include three daughters, Shirley Thompson of Augusta, Ga., Sue Peterson of Liberal, Kan., Cheryl Trayler of Guymon; one son, George Wayne Martin of Ellisworth, Kan.; two sisters, Carrie Gum Jumper of Guymon; Riedie Gum of Hardesty; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brother, John, Felix, Twigs, Paul and Tommy Fergeson.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Henson Funeral Home Chapel in Guymon Tuesday at 2 p.m. Rev. Richard T. Powell, will officiate. Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of Henson Funeral Home of Guymon.
