Irene Jeanette Abens, the daughter of Jacob and Sarah (Tjaden) Abens, was born January 7, 1913 on a farm on Lizard Lake. She was raised and educated there attending country schools. She remained at home with her parents helping to care for them until their death. She then made her home with her many brothers and sisters helping to care for their families.
On January 14, 1955, she was united in marriage to Donald Johnson. The couple made their home in Gilmore City for most of their 50 years of marriage. The couple moved to Humboldt and in 2005, Mr. Johnson passed away. Irene was a resident of the Humboldt Care Center South until her death.
Irene was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City. She enjoyed gardening and playing the organ. Irene will be remembered as a devoted wife and had great love for her extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; and brothers and sisters, Ella Weber, Heike Abens, Waite Abens, Ernie Abens, Louie Abens, Sena Janssen, Nora Ridenour, Lawrence Abens, Elma Folkers, and Edna Abens.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City with the Rev. Ray Block officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Published by Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home.
