A graveside service will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at 3 p.m. at Level Cross United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeffrey Martin and the Rev. Jeff Sypole officiating.
Mr. Toomes was a life-long resident of Randolph County, an Army veteran of W.W. II and was retired from Lyles Chevrolet after 40 years of service.
Mr. Toomes was preceded in death by his parents, "Allie" Hodgin Toomes and Robert Vernon Toomes; brothers, Robert F. Toomes, William H. Toomes; and sisters, Faye Fallenstein and Elizabeth T. Petty.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth S. Toomes of the home; son, Donald L. Toomes and wife, Angela; daughters, Brenda T. Williams, Patti T. Hooker and her husband, Mike, and Rose T. Luck, all of Randleman; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Arnold J. "Buck" Toomes of Randleman; sisters, Gayle Millikan of Randleman, Erma Scarlette of Salisbury.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1-2:30 p.m. at the church, other times at his home.
