Obituary

Funeral services for Helen Andersen, 91, of Blair, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Orum Cemetery. Mrs. Andersen died Saturday, Feb. 16, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Helen Dorothy Andersen was born April 15, 1910, in rural Arlington to Edward and Laura (Nielsen) Newkirk. She was baptized and confirmed at the Orum Lutheran Church.

She attended the Bisbee School by Orum. On Jan. 12, 1933, she married Anders Alfred Andersen in Fremont.

Except for a short period of time when the couple lived in Amherst, Colo., Mrs. Andersen lived in Blair. She worked at Crowell Home for 13 years, retiring in 1982.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Royal Neighbors and Rebekah Lodge.

She enjoyed making quilts, Easter sugar eggs, and Christmas Santa cookies, and canning pickles and jams.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dayle and Arlene Andersen of Spokane, Wash., and Doyle and Fanchon Andersen of Omaha, three daughters and sons- in law, Betty and Warner Guy of Omaha, Laura and Bill Lyles of Omaha, and Lois and Larry Koglin of Scribner, 24 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and sister, Opia Lee Hart of Blair.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, three brothers, four sisters, one grandson, Danny Andersen, and one great-granddaughter, Stephanie Mahana.

Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church, Crowell Memorial Home, or Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
