Adele Newell Starr, daughter of Ross Wade Newell and Cornelia Irene McMillan,was born in Newellton, LA in 1908. In 1926 she came to Chattanooga, TN to attend the University. In 1936 she married Dr. Harold Starr, a Chattanooga pediatric physician. They were married 59 years and had 3 children, 1 daughter and 2 sons. She was a volunteer over the years with many groups including the Junior League, the Medical Auxiliary, and Women of Centenary Methodist Church.
