Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Verlon H. Price, age 78, of Swainsboro, GA, on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the Community Hospice in Vidalia, GA. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Black officiating, Rev. Butch Taylor and Marvin McIntyre assisting. Mr. Price will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Blundale Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM. Pallbearers are Al Flanders, Randy Smith, Michael Wells, James Smith, Josh Clements, Tim Hendley, Curt Grimm and Chuck Ansley. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Randall Jones, Bob Seamans, Harry Dean Wiggins, Mike Youmans, David Kettles, Henry Brett, Bobby Dickey, Billy Morrison, E.T. Willis and Johnny Holloway.

Mr. Price was born in Wrightsville and lived most of his life in Swainsboro. He retired from United Insurance Co. of America as an agent and supervisor. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he served as deacon, assistant Sunday school director, usher, and in many other capacities of the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Oscar and Evelyn Fordham Price; sisters, Arlene Horton, Nelouise Ansley, and Shelby Jean Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Price of Swainsboro; two daughters: Diane Claxton (Willis) of Glennville, and Starr Peebles (Jeffrey) of Swainsboro; one son: Ricky Price (Kim) of Ashville, NC; one step-son: Jimmy Sherrod of Midville; one sister: Mary McIntyre (Marvin) of Vidalia; special niece: Tammy Hendley (Tim) of Swainsboro, and their children Emily and Lauren Hendley; six grandchildren: Amber Claxton Durrence, Will Claxton, Adam Price, Alicia Price, Elijah Peebles and Elayah Peebles; seven step-grandchildren: Norman Sherrod, Chris Sherrod, Crystal Sherrod, Jason Sherrod, Dillon Sherrod, Lindsey Plemmons and Nicole Martin; 20 great-grandchildren.
