ALDERMAN, HARTWELL ALLEN:
Co. I. 45TH VIRGINIA INFANTRY REGIMENT,
CONFEDERATE STATES ARMY
Born 1/21/32. Enl. 5/29/61 at Wytheville.
He was a nurse 7/61.
Promoted to Sgt. 11/30/61.
Captured 5/25/63 and released 7/11/63.
He joined the U.S. Army.
5'9" tall, blue eyes, black hair.
He died 6/13/99

Mr. Hartwell Alderman of Carroll County died the other day from the effects of a hurt received three weeks ago. Mr. Alderman had been on a "spree" and his horse ran under an apple tree and struck his head against a limb, which it is thought caused his death. Mr. Alderman had been very prominent. He was at one time postmaster at Hillsville, deputy collector of revenue, deputy US marshal and a justice of the peace for a number of years.
