Mr. Hartwell Alderman of Carroll County died the other day from the effects of a hurt received three weeks ago. Mr. Alderman had been on a "spree" and his horse ran under an apple tree and struck his head against a limb, which it is thought caused his death. Mr. Alderman had been very prominent. He was at one time postmaster at Hillsville, deputy collector of revenue, deputy US marshal and a justice of the peace for a number of years.
