Pecatonica, Ill. — Jane E. Naber, 92, passed away Sunday morning, January 13, 2013 after a short illness at her home in Pecatonica.
Born December 5, 1920 in Rockford, daughter of Howard & Rose (Wise) Fitzgerald. Graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1938.
Jane grew up above her father's barbershop on Main Street and worked at Hobson's Department Store during WWII. She later purchased J's Boutique just two doors from where she grew up. She owned the dress and beauty shop for 20 years. She was active in many business related and church organizations. She was a lifelong devout member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Due to her venerable knowledge and keen memory of the town and its residents, Jane was a valuable resource for the Pecatonica Historical Society. Jane was a member of the first Girl Scout troop in Pecatonica and was very active as a leader for both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was an avid bird watcher and nature lover. She enjoyed watching Cubs games along with her husband of 71 years.
Survivors include: daughter, Jill (Naber) Stites; grandchildren, Casey (Jessica) Naber, CJ Naber, Ryan Stites, and Erin (Joseph) Vance; and great-grandchildren, Sydney, Aubrey, Collin Naber, and Sarah Jane Vance.
Predeceased by parents; son, Mick (Kathy) Naber; and three infant siblings.
Prayers will be recited at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2013, at Countryman Funeral Home, 529 Washington St. in Pecatonica, IL, with a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 126 W. 5th St. in Pecatonica, IL, with Msgr. Robert Sweeney officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Pecatonica, IL.
A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday with a rosary recited at 7:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established at a later date in her name.
