Mr. Carroll Burch passed away on Friday, October 28, 1988 at his campus address, while he was a student at Auburn University. He was born on September 5, 1964 in Douglas, Georgia, to Dr. Denton Arlis and Elizabeth Dockery Burch.
He was a student at Auburn University in the Graduate program seeking a Masters Degree, having graduated from Auburn in 1987, Marion Military Institute in May of 1984, and Coffee High School in 1982. Mr. Burch was First Lieutenant in the 560th Engineer Battalion of Georgia Army National Guard, Columbus, Georgia. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Douglas.
Survivors include: his parents: Dr. and Mrs. Arlis Burch of Douglas; 1 sister, Mrs. Peggy Burch Greene of Thomaston; Maternal Grandmother, Mrs. Phoebe Dockery of Broxton; 1 niece, Marie Green; 1 nephew, Tony Greene and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 4pm Sunday, October 30, 1988, at the First Baptist Church in Douglas with the Rev. Frank M. Johnson and Chaplain Frank D. Macon officiating. Graveside rites with full military honors were lead by personnel from the 560th Engineer Battalion of Georgia Army National Guard from Columbus Ga. Serving as honorary pallbearers were member of the 560th Engineer Battalion of Georgia Army National Guard from Columbus; 48th Infantry Brigade of Georgia Army National Guard from Macon, Ga; 265th Engineer Group from Marietta, Ga.; and 878th Engineer Battalion from Augusta, Ga. Major General Clyde W. Spence Jr, President of Marion Military Institute, his wife and daughter, Holly [who were close friends of Carroll] sat with the family.
Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
