R.J. Ackerbauer, Aged 76, Dies
Native of Austria Had Been in Poor Health For Some Time Past
Rupert J. Ackerbauer, 76, well known retired leather worker, died yesterday afternoon about 3:45 at the home, 419 Fon Clair street. He had been in failing health since January, 1932, and his condition had been serious for several months. Death was due to a complication of diseases.
Mr. Ackerbauer was born in Erdberg, Austria, September 21, 1862, the son of Sebastian Ackerbauer and Genevieve Grunwald.
He came to this country about 46 years ago and settled in Johnstown where he took up the leather dressing trade. He was employed for a number of years in the old Littauer mill, Railroad avenue, and continued there when the business was taken over by A. J. Baker. He continued his employment in that plant until compelled to retire because of ill health in January, 1932.
One year ago today Mr. Ackerbauer and his wife, Johanna Riessling Ackerbauer, celebrated
the 50th anniversary of their marriage. The original wedding ceremony, performed in Erdberg, Austria, November 21, 1887, was repeated in St. Patrick's church, this city, a year ago.
Mr. Ackerbauer was a member of St. Patrick's church and the Holy Name society.
The survivors, besides his widow, are five daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Cristman, Herkimer, Mrs. Charles Downing, Mrs. Ransford Groff, Gloversville, Mrs. Peter Joyce Johnstown and Mrs. Edward Dunn Schenectady; three sons, Frank R. Ackerbauer, Canajoharie, Charles E. and Richard J. Ackerbauer, Johnstown; three brothers, Frank Ackerbauer, Johnstown, Paul Ackerbauer, Vienna, Austria, and Karl Ackerbauer, Erdberg, Austria, one sister, Mrs. Frank Kohlberger, Erdberg; and thirteen grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at the family home Wednesday morning at 9 and at St. Patrick's church at 9:30. A solemn high mass of requiem will be sung. Burial will be made in St. Patrick's cemetery.
