He was the son of John and Sophia Sackett Mallory. He married twice. First, to Sylvia A. Drake, in Westfield, Massachusetts on November 19, 1861. Second, he married Tryphena Sackett on November 15, 1864 in Westfield, Massachusetts. According to his death certificate, he died of Chronic Bright's Disease.
