My grandfather was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 42nd Rainbow Division during World War II. They helped to liberate the Dachau concentration camp. He was awarded the Battlefield Commission of Lieutenant and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He served from 1941 - 1946.

He later worked for UST as a salesman and then in the banking industry.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Waverly Presbyterian Church in Baltimore.

He was married to Edna Hackett Oliphant.

He was the father of Edna Jean, and grandfather of Barb.

He enjoyed visiting the ocean and mountains, fishing, coin collecting, playing bridge, the old Baltimore Colts, and Orioles baseball.
