Edgar Gillespie ABBOTT
Mary Jane "Jennie" MCCLAIN
Charles Walker Abbott married Lucy Green on October 4, 1905 in Coshocton County, Ohio.
Charles W. (Doc) Abbott was a member of Coshocton's first professional baseball team. He began his baseball career with the Cosh. Fountains of 1902, rated by old-timers as the fastest amateur baseball club ever assembled. When the Coshocton Goats, a professional squad was organized in 1904, "Doc" was the only local player to make the team, the others were all recruited from out-of-town. His pay was $40 a month. The club started to play a regular schedule but, beset by difficulties, it was discontinued in Aug. 1904 and Mr. Abbott was hired to play with Lancaster in the same league. For 13 years thereafter "Doc" was a professional baseball player with various teams throughout the country. He never got to the big leagues, but was personally acquainted with many of the big league stars of his day.
