Argyle- Bennett O. Scottum, 83, was found dead Wednesday (Nov. 15, 1972) in his car at the home of Mrs. Celia Splinter, where he had been rooming. The Lafayette County Coroner's office ruled the death Wednesday suicide by carbon monoxide poisioning. He had been ill for some time.
He was a lifelong Argyle area resident and was a carpenter. He married the former Grace Garrison in 1952. He was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Argyle American Legion Post.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Mrs. John Grutzmacher, and Mrs. Homer LaForce, both of Mukwonago; and a stepson, Erling Malmer, Rockford, Ill.
The funeral will be at 2:30 pm today in the Erickson Funeral Home.
