Milton E. Kelley, 83, of Fort Madison died at 4:21 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Born Jan. 2, 1930, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Alvin and Gertrude Herrick Kelley. On June 14, 1964, he married Maureen Douglas in Denmark.
Mr. Kelley retired in August 2002 as an engineer from Santa Fe Railroad, where he worked 49 years. He also worked seven years for Railway Express and worked for Northern Pacific, CB & Q, the Union Pacific and seven divisions on the Santa Fe. He served from 1949 to 1952, in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion, VFW, AMVETS and NAARVE. He was local chairman for Local Brotherhood of Local Engineers and president of B.L.E. Division 391 for 12 years. He was a member of Community of Christ Church in Fort Madison. He enjoyed traveling and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Diane Ratermann of Knoxville, Ill.; three sons, David Kelley of Hollywood, Fla., Michael Kelley of Fort Madison and Matthew Kelley of Bozeman, Mont.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Burial with military rites will be in Soldiers' Circle in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.
