SOUTH BEND - Freida C. Holland, residing in South Bend, IN, passed away at 10:50 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013, at Hospice House, South Bend, surrounded by her loving family. She was 97 years old.
She was born May 9, 1915, in Bethel Springs, Tennessee, to William Calvin & Jessie (Humphries) Ellis. On December 31, 1931, in Corinth, MS, she was united in marriage to Rev. Narvin Loyce Holland. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage until his passing on July 12, 2000. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers. Mrs. Holland worked beside her husband in ministry all of their married life, in Indiana and Tennessee, including 28 years at 1st United Pentecostal Church of Crawfordsville, IN. She served as the first youth leader for United Pentecostal Churches of Tennessee. She wrote many plays and dramas for the church, and loved writing poetry. She loved people, and loved serving her Lord. She was a wonderful seamstress as well. Since living in South Bend, she has been a member of Ironwood United Pentecostal Church. Mrs. Holland is survived by her daughters, Betty Ruth (Rev. Kenneth) Mendenhall of South Bend, Kay Marie (Robert) Bennett of Granger and Barbara Sue (Everett) Davenport of Crawfordsville, IN; and her sons, Joe Allen (Lavelle) Holland of Birmingham, AL, and Tommy Dale (Pam) Holland of Lafayette, IN. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jewell Coker of Selmer, TN, and June Hill of Yazoo City, MS. Services celebrating the life of Sister Holland will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, at the United Pentecostal Church, 4609 South Ironwood Drive, South Bend. Rev. Kenneth Mendenhall will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

Entombment will be at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.
