Donald Eugene Boner, 72, a lifelong Etna Troy Township, Whitley County farmer, died at 10:42 a.m. Sunday, February 27, 2011 in the emergency room of Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was transported after becoming suddenly ill at home.

He was born April 29, 1938 in Warsaw, Indiana a son of Carold W. and Lois L. (Kitson) Boner. He graduated from Larwill High School in 1956 and received a degree in animal science from Purdue University.

On September 26, 1961 he enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged August 31, 1967.

On April 12, 1964 he was united in marriage to Ruth J. DeHabey. They have always made their home on the Boner Family farm.

A dairy and grain farmer, he was very active at the local, state and national levels showing Registered Holstein cattle, winning many awards for top honors.

His memberships included Big Lake Church of God, Whitley County, Indiana and the National Holstein Associations, Whitley County 4-H Inc. where he was a former president of the Advisory Board.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruth; three children, Debra (Rick) Hunt Ott of South Lake TX, Donna (Ken) McDonald of Columbia City and Rick (Melissa) Boner of Merrillville; three grandchildren, Rachel Ott and Lillian & Lucas Boner; and sister, Ruth Ann Shenberger of Maryland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois C. Wilcoxson.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Adams Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
