Stanley Back, loved by so many, went to be with his Lord on Friday, January 11, 2013.
Born on June 25, 1933 in Oswego, Kansas, he was the youngest of seven siblings born to Sanford and Bessie Back.
After his high school graduation he met and married the love of his life, LaTrell Lucas. They were married on December 10, 1951 in Fayetteville, Arkansas then moved to San Diego, California where he served his country in Korea as part of the United States Navy aboard the Navy stores ship, USS Merapi, AF-38. When his tour was complete, they moved to Albuquerque to begin their married lives. The jobs he held gave him a direct connection to their new home as a route driver for Rainbow Bread and Frito Lay. Stanley could still tell you today historical facts and stories about the many business places he served. His passion for singing was fulfilled in two very important areas of life. One place was being the music director during his many years of faithful service at his home church, Bella Vista Baptist, where he continued to participate in their music programs until his passing. His other passion place to sing was the Albuquerque Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, a member for over 50 years. This association gave him opportunities to sing to others in public through contests, nursing homes, local churches and the always popular Singing Valentines in February. He couldn't wait to retire after many years at Montgomery Ward and Phillips 66, to just enjoy his life. This meant spending time with his beloved wife and family and never missing an opportunity for his morning breakfast burrito or coffee and doughnuts (holes only please) at various regular locations in town.
Stanley was preceeded in death by his wife, LaTrell, two daughters, Evalyn (Blaine Harvey) and Dorinda (Wes Sickenger) of Albuquerque, three sons, Roy (Deanna) of Albuquerque, Barry (Karen) and Grady (Lezlie) of Texas. Stanley is also survived by ten grandchildren, Brandon, Darren, Daniel, Benjamin, Joanna, Stephanie, Stephen, Justin, Baylie and Brayden, ten great-greatgrandchildren, Jacob, Carson, Elyssa, Abigale, Kaylee, Colton, Kenna, Caleb, Cooper, Cason and Camden (who he's already met as he's not arriving until March!) His blessings continued in having many honorary children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Teresa, Timmy, Tiffany, Sarah, Sharon, Bradley, Zachery, Sevenah, Patrick and untold others that happily called him Grandpa. And still more family survive him, two brothers, Dean (Marilyn) and Ernie (Rita) his sister, Sandy and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
This humble faithful Christian man will leave a very large empty space in the lives of all his family and many friends.
A Visitation will be held at French - Lomas on Monday, January 14, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Bella Vista Baptist Church, 2800 Louisiana Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
