Born in Albany, Oct. 16, 1886, he was the son of Fred and Eliza Theiler Benkert. He
attended the Loveland rural school, Washington township, and the Albany high school for two years. On Sept. 29, 1910, he was united in marriage to Ethel Morrell, the ceremony taking place- in Mt. Horeb. Mr. and Mrs. Benkert always made their home in Monticello since their marriage. Mr. Benkert had been a painter and decorator for many years. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard, in 1927.
