Lorenzo Bryant was born February 22, 1845, in Lake City, Columbia County, Florida. He was the son of Benjamin Thomas Bryant and Susan (Niblack) Bryant.
In 1860 Bryant, age 15, lived with his parents, Thomas and Susan, along with his siblings James L, Edward, Thomas J. (Jasper) , William J., Silas F, Robert, Amanda M., George, Charles, and Luties. They resided in Lake City, Columbia County, Florida. Thomas, James, Edward and Lorenzo worked as farm laborers. All were born in Florida.
On January 10, 1861 Florida seceded from the Union and the Army of the Confederate States was formed. In 1861 Bryant enlisted as a Private in Company A, 1st Florida Cavalry, Confederate States army at Camp Mary Davis near Tallahassee Florida under Colonel Maxwell, Commander of Regiment and Captain Arthur Roberts. He was mustered into service on May 12, 1861. Discharged at Graham Camp in Tennessee due to being under age at Strawberry Plains in Tennessee.
He re-enlisted January 1863 under Capt. William Cones Co, 2nd Florida Cavalry at Lake City, Florida. and served in Company G, 5th Florida Battalion.
His brother, Thomas Jasper Bryant, enlisted in Lake Butler as a private on May 1, 1864 in Co. I, 1st Reserves, Florida, Army of Confederate States of America under Colonel Daniel and Captain B. G. Hodges. He later transferred into Company G. 2nd Florida Cavalry under, Major Harrison and Captain William Kohn in December where he served until the close of war. He was at Camp Randolph near Tallahassee, Florida.
Bryant married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Wooten on December 13, 1866. She was born in South Carolina. Their children from this union were:
Anna, born 1868, in Florida and married J. H. Hancock on August 20, 1885 in Polk County, Florida
Robert, born 1870, in Florida
Ollie, born 1873, in Florida and married W. D. Harp on October 11, 1891 in Polk County, Fl
In 1880, Bryant age 35 and his wife Elizabeth, age 28, resident in the community of the Precinct Election 5, Polk County, Florida. Also, their children Anna 12, Robert 10, Olive 7, and Bryant's Brother Robert 30, worked on the farm.
In 1910 in the community of Kathleen, Bryant lived with his wife, Lizzie, and his brother Silas. Lizzie stated that she had 3 children and only 2 remained living. They had been married for 35 years. Bryant and Silas worked on the farm.
On July 28, 1915 Bryant submitted an Application for Increase in Pension. He stated he was 70 years old. Drs. K E. McMurray and A. D. Puterbaugh made statements about the petitioner, "incapacitated by age, also has some roughening of one of heart values (aortic)."
In 1920 the Bryants where living with their son-in-law, William D.. Harp and their daughter Ollie in the Kathleen area.
Bryant died March 10, 1924 and was laid to rest at Socrum Cemetery, one of Polk County's oldest cemeteries.
