Carl "Billy" Matthew McElroy Jr. passed away on January 7, 2013, in Bakersfield, CA. Carl's parents owned McElroy Egg Ranch in Oroville, where he worked as a child through his early twenties. He graduated from Las Plumas High in 1964 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps and became highly decorated while serving in Vietnam. Carl was a Past Exalted Ruler of Oroville Elks Lodge and later Chico Elks Lodge. Carl worked for D.R. Roper Civil Engineering in Oroville and then moved to Bakersfield. He became a correctional officer at Wasco State Prison until he retired in 2007. Since 1960, he was an avid 49er fan and collected a variety of memorabilia. His family and friends were the most important part of his life. All of his grandchildren's friends became very dear to him and they called him "Grandpa". Carl is survived by his wife, Gail; his daughter, Lynn McElroy-Gnibus; son, William Schulte; and grandchildren, Beau, Brett and Bree; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
