Robert Horace Hennessee Sr., 84, of Greensboro passed away Monday, June 11, 2007, at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home Chapel.

Robert, the youngest of 12 children, was born Nov. 4, 1922, in McDowell County to the late Robert Horace Hennessee and Lula Alice Lonon Hennessee.

He attended Lees McRae College from 1940 to 1942. He served his country in the Army during World War II in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany, with the 9th Army. His decorations and citations are the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Bronze Star, EAME Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.

He was the McDowell County Senior Citizen of the Year in 1994, presented by McDowell Chamber of Commerce, Marion. In 1995, he was presented a Certificate of Appreciation from McDowell County for Outstanding Personal Involvement and Significant Contribution to the well being and development of your community and McDowell County.

He retired in 1987, as construction superintendent from Dewey Jordan Inc. Construction Company in Frederick, Md. He was active in Glenmont United Methodist Church, Silver Spring, Md. and was chairman of the board of trustees for many years. He is and has been a Master Mason since October 1957 and is a member of Gate City Lodge 694, A.F. & A.M, Greensboro.
