Gertrude Behrens, age 98, of Barnes, KS, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Linn Community Care Home in Linn, KS.
Gertrude was born on October 15, 1914, on her parents farm near Chepstow, KS. She is the daughter of the late Henry B. and Wilhelmine F. (Ukena) Wichman. She was Bbaptized on November 1, 1914 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church by Reverend G.W. Ruhl, then on April 1, 1928 she was confirmed by Reverend L.W. Temme, also at St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
She attended Greenleaf High School. On February 12, 1936 she Married Edgar W. Behrens at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, south of Barnes. He passed away on February 5, 2007.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, west of Greenleaf and a member of the Ladies Aide Society of the church. She loved to travel with her husband Edgar, spending time with family and friends, as well as playing cards.
Survivors include her many, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are planned for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, west of Greenleaf. Burial will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, next to the church. Viewing will be from Noon to 8:00 pm on Tuesday at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Waterville. Gertrude's family will receive guests at the funeral home between 6:00 and 7:30 pm.
