Ruby Ruth Riley Sowers, 93, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. She was born in Botetourt County, Va., (Carvins Cove) on March 28, 1919, and was the daughter of the late Letcher Riley and Lavela Layman. Ruby attended Botetourt Schools and graduated from Roanoke Memorial School of Nursing and retired as a LPN at Roanoke Memorial in 1984. She was a longtime member of Patterson Memorial Brethren Church, Hollins, Va.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Garman W. Sowers Sr.; and a great-great- grandson, Brandon Sowers.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Bernie and Kathyrn Sowers, of Roanoke, Garman Jr. and Dorothy Sowers, of Sun City West, Ariz., and Richard and Peggy Sowers, of Roanoke; grandson, Thomas "Tom" Sowers, of Roanoke; step granddaughter, Traci and Wayne Eubank, and their children, Kinley and Camden, all of Roanoke; great- grandson, Thomas "Tommy" Sowers, of Kentucky; great- granddaughter, Janice Sowers, of Salem; six great- great-grandchildren; cousins; and special friend and neighbor, Mary Devan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Patterson Memorial Grace Brethren Church, 5512 Hollins Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013, at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Don Eshelman officiating. The interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
