Epps Perrow
Epps Turner Perrow
Epps Turner Perrow, 94, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, in Lynchburg.
Mrs Perrow was born Nov. 3, 1912, at "Home House," Galt's Mill, Virginia.
She was the daughter of Edgar James Turner and Ruth Elinor Floyd Turner.
In her early life she and her sister, Frances were home schooled by their mother and enjoyed house parties, horseback riding, croquet and tennis on the lawn over-looking the James River.
Her love of painting manifested itself when Epps was quite young and continued all her life. She studied art under Miss Georgia Morgan at Lynchburg College and attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. In Lynchburg, she continued her art classes at the Lynchburg Art Club and later, the Fine Arts Center studying under each of its Directors, Hal McIntosh, Bob Harmon and John Duncan, among others. She participated in numerous group and one woman shows. Her work has won many awards including several best of show honors, and is owned by numerous collectors. Epps took great pleasure not only in the art lessons themselves, but also from her many friends that she met and loved while in those classes. She felt as though her paintings were her children and was reluctant to part with them. More than her own works, she was proud of her art collection of area artists, whom she encouraged and supported.
On June 21, 1941, Epps Turner married Fletcher Kirkpartick Perrow, Jr., and they moved to Locust Hill, his family's home in Pittsylvania County. She and Kirk were married for 51 years.
Epps became a life-long member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Regent of the Thomas Carter Chapter that was founded by her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Stone Perrow. She was a member of the National League of American Pen Women and an active member of Lane Memorial United Methodist Church, Altavista, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She entertained often, opening Locust Hill on many occasions for teas and historic tours. She was a gracious hostess who always had a warm smile and refreshments for all.
Her parents, her sister and her husband preceded Mrs. Perrow in death.
She is survived by her son, Fletcher Kirkpatrick Perrow III and his partner, David Dean Pugh of Washington, D.C., her son, Edgar James Turner Perrow and his wife, Florence of Galt's Mill; and two grandsons, Edgar James Turner Perrow Jr. and his wife, Holly of Lynchburg and Nathaniel Floyd Perrow and his wife, Elizabeth of Richmond.
The family is especially grateful for the tender care and affection shown by the nurses and staff on the sixth floor of Drinkard Health Care Center at Westminster Canterbury.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at the family cemetery, Locust Hill, with the Rev. Jeff Allen officiating.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in the chapel at Westminster Canterbury. The family will receive friends following each service.
