Raymond C. "Kirk" Kirkpatrick III, 66, died Monday in Huntsville Hospital from complications of long standing diabetes and kidney failure. Born in New Castle, Pennsylvania to the late R.C. Kirkpatrick, Jr. and Ruth Mechler Kirkpatrick, his family moved to Birmingham in 1950. He was a graduate of Winfield High School (Winfield, AL, 1964) and the University of AL (1968) (physics), and was a resident of Huntsville for over 40 years.
Kirk had a long and distinguished career at the Missile Intelligence Agency (now Missile and Space Intelligence Center) as an analyst and technical expert in the areas of surface-to-air missiles, command, control, computers and analytic tools and production. He retired in 2010 after 41 years with the agency.
Survivors include his wife, Allyson Moore Kirkpatrick; son, William Todd Moore Kirkpatrick; brothers, Dr. Michael Kirkpatrick (Wanda) of Mobile, AL and James Kirkpatrick (Shelia) of Northport, AL; sister, Lynne Dover (Mike) of Jasper, AL, four nieces; and two nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am Saturday at Maple Hill Cemetery with Father Michael Mac Mahon officiating.
