William A Greer was born in Barren County, Kentucky. At the age of 15 he moved to Montgomery County, Illinois. In about 1848 he moved to Marion County, Iowa and in 1866 to Wayne County Iowa, where he lived until his death. He married Elzira Webb on November 5, 1840. To this union were born five sons and five daughters, whose names are:
