He was the son of Andrew Jackson and Ellen Frances (Reck) Payne. He married Ethel Williams on August 20, 1916 in Wabash County, Illinois and she preceded him in death on February 1, 1946.
He was employed for many years by the Big Four railroad as a section worker, retiring on account of ill health.
He was survived by a son, Jack Payne; three daughters, Madona Eilene Boyer, Ella Marie Rogers and Marinel Payne.
Rev. Ina Ellis officiated at services held on March 22, 1951 in the Methodist Church, Saint Francisville.
