"WILLIAM STRATEMEYER OF CROSBY

Another auto accident in which a life was lost occurred Wednesday night about 11 o'clock (May 13th, 1931) when William Stratemeyer of Crosby was killed at Mille Lacs Lake, opposite the Nichol's home and Albin Holsather of Cutler in whose car the men were riding received a gash on the cheek and minor injuries besides the shock.
The two men had driven to Crosby [Crow Wing Co. MN] and then Trommald, MN in the afternoon in the Holsather car. On their way back to Cutler they had a flat tire at Garrison and were traveling the remainder of the way on 'the rim of the tire.' The car left the road when it hit a slight depression. The crash and barking of the dog aroused Bert Welliver, who raised his window and heard a cry for help. Calling his uncles Fred Nichols and Dexter Nichols, the men hurried to the scene and succeeded in releasing Albin Holsather. But William George Stratemeyer was dead, pinned under the wrecked car.
Coroner E. E. Seavey was called and brought the body to Aitkin Co. Witnesses were summoned May 14, 1931 (a Thursday) to the Seavey undertaking room where County Attorney J. F. Galarneault took their testimony where Mrs. Ann Beulow was stenographer.
William Stratemeyer was 39 years of age and a son of Ernst Henry Stratemeyer of Crosby. He was a meat cutter by trade and was well known in this vicinity and on the range. At the time of his death he was working at the Marsh Resort on Mille Lacs Lake and making his home with his sister Mrs. Eldon Wilson (Kate).
