Frances Nixon Bovender, 86, of Winston-Salem, NC died Friday, September 23, 2016. Born in Surry County on December 25, 1929, she was the third child of Rufus Hoyle Nixon and Ima Isaacs Nixon. After graduating from Mountain Park High School, Fran received her nursing degree from North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1951, along with 57 classmates -- many of whom were lifelong friends. She honored the nursing profession; her entire work experience was in the surgical operating theatre at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, retiring from the Outpatient Surgical Center at age 79 3/4! After retirement, she volunteered at Community Care Center.

A believer in Christ, Fran was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church on Fifth Street, Winston-Salem, where her memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Following the service, her children and grandchildren will fellowship with family and friends at the church.

Fran was the wife of Joseph Sadler Berryhill, deceased 1954, and Curtis Ray Bovender, deceased 1989.

Surviving are two daughters, Johanna Berryhill Aiken and husband Leonard Aiken and Judy Bovender Davis and husband Jim Davis. She was the proud Granny of Lucas Jared Aiken, Laura Catherine Davis and Maxwell Bovender Davis, and one great-grandchild Braelyn Hope Aiken.

Fran was predeceased by her brother Rufus Adrian Nixon and sister Ruth Nixon Norman.

Other surviving family members are James and Billie Berryhill, Leroy and Shirley Bovender, Carl and Sandra Bovender, Irene and Bobby Cheek, Opal Bovender, and Carol Spaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to First Baptist Church Children's Center, 501 W. Fifth Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
