Charles E. SMOKER, 67, 9824 E. Kosciusko County Road 350 South, Akron, died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Born in Kosciusko County on Aug. 4, 1934 to Doin and Violet SMITH SMOKER, he married Carolyn CUMMINS Oct. 6, 1956 in Akron. She survives.

Mr. Smoker, a farmer, retired from West View School Corp., where he was a janitor. He lived in the Stroh and Topeka area 25 years, returning to Akron. He attended Akron Church of God and was a member of the Akron Lions Club.

Surviving with his wife, at home, are his parents, Doin and Violet SMOKER, Akron; one daughter, Pam BEGLEY and husband Sheldon, Metamora; three sons, Patrick [SMOKER] and wife Freida, West Lafayette, Jeffrey [SMOKER] and wife Brenda and Douglas [SMOKER] and wife Libby, all of Hudson; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Merlee HECKATHORN and husband Fred, Celina, Ohio.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Akron Church of God with Rev. Terry McGARRITY officiating. Burial will be at Akron Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Saturday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Memorials may be made to Akron Church of God or Akron Lions Club.
