Son of Phillip Ai Shartzer and Virginia Ann (Cleaver) Shartzer. Virtle had a wooden leg, do not know how it happen. It is told that he was very close to his Mother, so much that when she passed away on 14 Jan. 1902 he died from a broken heart just five days later. Burial records show that both he and his Mother's funerals cost was twelve dollars total.
