She was cremated at her request, and a private family graveside service will be conducted at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery at a later date. Goodwin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She died suddenly June 21, 2003. She was born May 6, 1934 in Cherokee, Okla. to Russell and Opal Price Kern. She grew up in Cherokee and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1953. She and Jim Arnold were married in February 1963 in Cherokee.
She worked for Bob Hogue and at Kern's Cafe before going to work for LD&R Cattle Company. She later was employed by Paul Doss Cattle Company for 31 years and was working there at the time of her death.
She bowled on both women's and mixed leagues. She was a member of the Christian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Kammie Cepeda of Evergreen Park, Ill.; a brother, James Kern of Cherokee, Okla.; a sister, Laura Fortunato of Portland, Ore.; a grandson, and a granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kelly, in 1995 and by a sister, Joyce Morland.
Memorials may be made to Diabetes Research through the funeral home.
