Cleo Keeling, 72, Rockford, died a 4:55 p.m. Monday, April 26, 1993, in Yorkdale Nursing Center following a long illness. Born Oct. 30, 1920, in Paducah, Ky., the son of Leslie and May Keeling. Lived most of his life in Rockford. Married Jewell Mondon in Argyle in 1940. Machine operator at Modern Metal Products many years before retiring. Verteran of U.S. Army serving in Italy during World War II; received numerous medals including the Silver and Bronze stars. Member of VFW Ross Pearson Post 5149.

Survivors include five sons, Kevin (Coco) Keeling, Rockford; Cleo D. Keeling, Brooklyn Center, Minn.; Keith (Joann) Keeling, Ozark, Ark.; Greg (Sue) Keeling, Chandler, Ariz.; and Quinton Scott Keeling, Flagstaff, Ariz.; three brothers, Russell (Deloris) Keeling, Beloit, Wis., Ray (Fern) Keeling Logansport, Ark., and Bill Keeling, California; three sisters, Kathleen Brauer, Rockford; Frances Lay, Vandalia; and Phyllis Keeling, Hacienda Heights, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; first wife, Jewell; and two brothers, Blane and Hanley.

Services at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 29, in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, with the Rev. Herman A. Brown, pastor of Lincolnwood Baptist Church, officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from noon to time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
