Harold Lloyd "Shorty" Kranz was born on September 7, 1930 in Joliet, Will County, Illinois, the son of
Harry Edwin Kranz Sr (1902–1993) and Edith Francis (Smith) Kranz (1903–1985).
He was a US Army veteran who served during the Korean War as a Combat Construction Specialist. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and Good Conduct Medal.
Shorty was married on December 4, 1955.
He retired in 1982 from Caterpillar after 32 years of service, and still in Joliet, he was 82 years old when he passed away on December 10, 2012 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Mathew Kranz, brother Butch Kranz, and by sisters Myrth Noon, Doris Lennert, Toots Hilton, Beverly Bankford, Marilyn Marco, Betty Kokalj and Darlene Orsen. Survivors included his wife, eleven children, thirty-five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a sister and a brother.
Funeral Services were held at O'Neil Funeral Home in Lockport, and the Mass of Christian Burial was said at Saint Joseph Church, also in Lockport. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville with Military Honors.
