Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Elizabeth Karr Bailey, 102, of Athens will be on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at McConnell Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 12:00, and chapel services at 2:00 with Reverend Jaina Anderson officiating, eulogy by Neal Flum, and special song by Herby Greenhaw. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. Mrs. Bailey passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born in Bessemer, Alabama, on July 25, 1910, to Everett Guy Karr and Sallie Vick Karr. On May 3, 1931, Evelyn married William Ray Bailey in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They moved with their children to Athens on January 1, 1950. Evelyn was active in PTA, Band Parents, and was a charter member of Athens Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. She worked at The Gift Shop of Athens Rug Company from 1964 to 1978, and later retired from Fossett Auto Glass at age 83. She was a devoted Alabama Football fan. Mrs Bailey held the distinction as the oldest living member of the First Presbyterian Church in Athens, Alabama and prior to her death, she is believed to be the oldest resident of Limestone County. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister Edna Karr Comer, and brother Guy Winters Karr. She is survived by her daughter; Beth Bailey Fossett and husband Randy of Athens; son William Ray Bailey, Jr., and wife Nancy of Athens; granddaughters, Melanie Fossett Varnell and husband Tom of The Woodlands, Texas; and Mary Beth Fossett of Athens; and grandson William Ray Bailey III (Trey) of Athens; great grandsons Pau1 Varnell & Will Varnell of The Woodlands, Texas; four nephews; six nieces a chosen grandson Neal Flum and his wife Jeanne of Birmingham; and Theo and Virginia Calvin; and other members of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens.
Pallbearers are Guy Winters Karr, Jr., Gregory William Karr, William Rush Blankenship, Thomas Waddell Bailey, William Ray Bailey III, Paul Watson Varnell, William Thomas Varnell, and Neal Howard Flum.
Honorary pallbearers are Theo & Virginia Calvin, and Dr. Chandra Koneru.
Mrs. Bailey's family would like to thank the special ones at Limestone Health Facility who were so kind and took such good care of her.
